The situation in Eagle Pass has caught the attention of reporters, gaining access to the zone controlled by Texas. The reporters observed that Texas has intensified its control measures by adding multiple layers of razor wire, forcing migrants to utilize clothes and other items for protection as they attempt to cross.
Despite the enhanced security measures, Mexican authorities have provided evidence, including videos and images, demonstrating that migrants continue to make determined efforts to cross the border and subsequently being rescued. However, an important distinction arises once migrants cross the midpoint of the river, as they officially enter U.S. territory. According to U.S. law and policy, these individuals ought to be processed under federal immigration laws. Nevertheless, due to the state of Texas' current control of the area, migrants are instead arrested and charged with criminal trespassing, a state-level offense.
