A handful of athletes have successfully crossed into the music world over the years.
The late Wayman Tisdale enjoyed a successful career as a jazz bassist after playing in the NBA for 12 years. Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal released four rap albums, including “Shaq Diesel,” which sold more than 1 million copies. Pitcher Adam Wainwright sang the national anthem before the Cardinals’ opening-day game this season.
Now, we have another gifted athlete/musician waiting in the wings.
Texas A&M Corpus Christi designated hitter Tre Jones performed a stirring rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” before his team’s home game against Incarnate Word on Saturday and concluded the anthem with a colorful flourish.

After playing the national anthem, Jones proceeded to go 3-for-4 on senior day, although his Islanders lost to the visiting Cardinals, 5-1.
Jones, a junior from Houston, earned first-team All-Southland Conference honors this season, batting .318 with six homers and 16 RBIs in 48 games.
