C.J. Stroud had two drives to start preseason, and the No. 2 overall pick will get the first look again against the Miami Dolphins.
Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed the club will start Stroud at quarterback with the possibility of more playing time.
“C.J. will go out first, again, as he did last week,” Ryans told reporters Thursday. “We’ll adjust the game as it goes along.”
Stroud went 2-4 for 13 yards and an interception in his two drives against the New England Patriots on Aug. 10. Although the Texans prevailed 20-9, there was concern whether Stroud had been pulled due to poor performance. However, Ryans indicated the team had a limited number of snaps for the rookie quarterback, regardless of how he fared.
The former Ohio State product is in a battle for the starting job with third-year Davis Mills, who went 9-of-12 for 99 yards and a touchdown last week. Nevertheless Stroud has maintained his share of first-team reps throughout practice.
The Texans kickoff against the Dolphins at 3:00 p.m. Central Time from NRG Stadium.
