Moments after the Texans selected C.J. Stroud at No. 2 in the 2023 NFL draft, Houston sent a rather a dazzling tweet letting the NFL world know how thrilled it was to pick the former Ohio State quarterback.
“IT WAS ALWAYS HIM 🤘,” the Texans tweeted after making their selection.
The message comes after Houston reportedly went back and forth for weeks deciding on whether the franchise would select a signal caller. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported earlier Thursday that the Texans were torn on whether to pick a quarterback or an edge rusher with the second pick.
Ultimately, Houston landed on Stroud at No. 2 and selected Alabama’s Will Anderson Jr. at No. 3 after trading up to the slot in a deal with the Cardinals. As DeMeco Ryans prepares for his first year as the Texans coach, he will work with a potential franchise quarterback and highly-touted defender.

Stroud finished with 4,435 passing yards, along with 44 touchdowns and only six interceptions during his first year as a starter at Ohio State in 2021. He followed it up with 3,688 yards, 41 touchdowns and six interceptions in ’22.
