Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud wrapped up his rookie season with incredible stats, a playoff victory and NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Oddsmakers believe more hardware could be in-store for the young passer, though.
BetMGM released its post-Super Bowl NFL MVP odds and gave Stroud the fourth-best odds to win at +1100 behind Patrick Mahomes (+600), Josh Allen (+800) and Joe Burrow (+900). Stroud’s odds are also slightly ahead of 2023 MVP Lamar Jackson (+1200), too.

+800 Josh Allen
+900 Joe Burrow
+1100 CJ Stroud
+1200 Lamar Jackson
+1400 Justin Herbert
+1400 Dak Prescott
+1600 Jordan Love
+1600 Brock Purdy
+1600 Jalen Hurts

These odds are a testament to Stroud’s otherworldly rookie season where he completed 63.9% of his passes for 4,108 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and only five interceptions. He also led the NFL with 237.9 passing yards per game.
It helps, too, that the Texans were able to keep offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson with new deals. Both were instrumental in Stroud’s early success under center. Houston will retain key pass-catchers Nico Collins and Tank Dell, too, along with a solid core of offensive linemen.
The biggest question will be what the Texans do at tight end, running back and if they decide to add another receiver weapon to the offense. Dalton Schultz and Devin Singletary are free agents but were solid fits on the offense. Houston has been linked to high-profile running backs as well.
Either way, Oddsmakers predict Stroud will build on his rookie season and have an even better sophomore campaign. That bodes well for a Texans team thinking about repeating as AFC South champions for the first time since 2018 and 2019.
