Texans place OL Kenyon Green on the injured reserve

Kenyon Green’s season is officially over.

The Houston Texans have placed the third-year offensive lineman on the injured reserve for the second time in as many seasons after suffering a shoulder injury in Week 9’s loss against the New York Jets.

In a corresponding move, wide receiver Nico Collins was designated for return/returned to practice and will begin his 21-day window to return to the active roster.

Collins, who led the NFL in receiving through five weeks with 567 yards, is expected to be cleared within a week and could even play Sunday against the Detroit Lions on primetime at NRG Stadium.

As for Green, his tenure in Houston remains at an impasse. After two seasons of struggling to find a rhythm and two season-ending injuries, the writing is on the wall that he could be headed elsewhere this offseason.

A former first-round pick out of Texas A&M, Green injured his shoulder during the second quarter and immediately went to the blue medical tent for evaluation. He later went to the locker room to get more medical attention.

Over his three seasons with the Texans, the two-time All-American has started 23 games. In nine starts in 2024, he’s allowed a league-high 33 pressures among all offensive guards.

The Texans will likely turn back to Jarrett Patterson, who is expected to play this week after clearing the concussion protocol.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on NBC.
