Texans minority owner Javier Loya is facing one count of first-degree rape, five counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of third-degree sexual abuse in Kentucky, according to ProFootballTalk.
Loya is a Houston businessman who is the cofounder and CEO of OTC Global Holdings, a Houston-based firm. He has been a minority owner for the Texans since the organization’s inception in 2002.
An arrest warrant was issued in Jefferson County, Ky., on May 10, and Loya’s case has a pretrial conference set for Aug. 22, according to the report.
The Texans acknowledged to ProFootballTalk that they are aware of the charges against Loya.
“We are aware of the serious charges filed in the Commonwealth of Kentucky against Javier Loya, one of our outside limited partners,” the statement said. “We have agreed with Mr. Loya that while these charges are pending, he will remove himself entirely from any team or League activities.”
Additionally, the NFL said the Texans properly informed the league about the situation, and it subsequently removed Loya from all committee positions.
“The club promptly notified the league of the serious pending charges against Mr. Loya after they were filed,” a league spokesperson told ProFootballTalk via email. “Mr. Loya has not been permitted to participate in any league or club activity during this process. He is no longer on any league committees.”
