Texans loitering outside top-10 of Touchdown Wire NFL Week 7 power rankings

The Houston Texans always just needed a quarterback.

The chief problem of the Nick Caserio era has been the general manager’s handling of the premier position. The incumbent wanted out in 2021 and there weren’t any quality prospects in 2022.

No doubt an investment in C.J. Stroud at No. 2 overall would shore up the position for the future, but how long would it take to see results?

According to Jarrett Bailey from the Touchdown Wire, the results take just six weeks as the Texans’ 3-3 record and 20-13 win over the New Orleans Saints is enough to place them No. 13 in the latest NFL power rankings for Week 7.

The Texans are this year’s Seahawks. No one expected this type of production from Houston, and look at them. C.J. Stroud has thrown nine touchdowns to just one interception and the Texans are sitting at .500 just lurking in the water.

Part of why no one expected this type of production from the Texans is because the only star on the team has been left tackle Laremy Tunsil. Houston has had one of the worst rosters just in terms of marketability alone the past two seasons, let alone one-and-done coaches in David Culley and Lovie Smith. On DeMeco Ryans’ merits alone, one would have to be curious how the reigning AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year is doing at his new job.

Across the rest of the AFC South, the Tennessee Titans improved from No. 27 to No. 26. The Indianapolis Colts dropped from No. 15 to No. 19. The Jacksonville Jaguars inched from No. 7 to No. 6.
