Texans land top defensive tackle in new 5-round mock draft

The Houston Texans appear to be a team building back in a hurry thanks to the addition of quarterback CJ Stroud. As we approached this 2024 NFL mock draft, we did so with an eye squarely on not only bolstering the physicality of the defense but also getting Stroud some weapons on offense. We were able to succeed at both and add developmental players on the offensive line with excellent upside and a tackling machine at inside linebacker.

First round - DT Jer'Zhan Newton, Illinois

Ron Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Powerful interior lineman with an explosive first step and closing speed.

Second round - TE Ja'Tavion Sanders, Texas

Prototypical NFL tight end who can run like a wide receiver with soft hands.

Third round - WR Tre Harris, Ole Miss

Petre Thomas-USA TODAY Sports

Excellent size and speed but it’s his ability to run after the catch that makes him such a weapon.

Fourth round - LB Junior Colson, Michigan

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Aggressive, downhill run stuffer with solid range.

Fourth round - C Zach Frazier, West Virginia

Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports

Great all-around interior offensive lineman with excellent athleticism and leadership

Fifth round - G Donovan Jackson, Ohio State

Powerful run blocker and excellent value this late in the draft.
