Texans Injury News: Will RB Joe Mixon Play Vs. Chiefs?

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon is currently dealing with an ankle injury. Will Mixon be able to suit up and play in Saturday’s Divisional Round game against the Kansas City Chiefs?

Joe Mixon Listed As Questionable Vs. Chiefs?

On Thursday’s injury report, the Texans listed Mixon as questionable with an ankle injury, jeopardizing his status for Saturday’s game.

After being limited in Wednesday’s practice, Mixon did not practice on Thursday.

Mixon is coming off an excellent game in the Texans’ 32-12 win against the Chargers in the Wild Card Round. Mixon rushed for 106 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries.

Mixon has dealt with ankle injuries all season. The Pro Bowl running back missed three games after suffering an ankle injury in Week 2’s victory against the Bears.

The Texans went 2-1 without Mixon before his return in Week 6.

After spending his first seven years with the Cincinnati Bengals, the Texans acquired Mixon in a trade in March 2024. The very next day, Mixon signed a three-year, $27 million contract extension.

Mixon has provided Houston with an effective ground game all season. Mixon carried the ball 245 times for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns. The 28-year-old also hauled in 36 receptions for 309 yards and one touchdown.

Mixon was named to the 2024 Pro Bowl.

If Mixon cannot play, Houston will rely on Dameon Pierce out of the backfield. Pierce rushed for 176 yards and one touchdown in Week 18’s win against the Titans.

Texans Vs. Chiefs Preview

The fourth-seeded Texans are headed to Arrowhead to play the top-seeded Kansas City Chiefs. It’s a rematch of Week 16, where the Chiefs defeated the Texans by a score of 27-19.

The Chiefs have won eight of the last 10 matchups, dating back to 2013.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a perfect 6-0 in the Divisional Round, including a 51-31 victory over the Texans in 2020. The Chiefs were down 24-0 to the Texans before scoring 41 unanswered points to take the lead and never look back.

Kickoff is set for Saturday, Jan. 18, at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPN/ABC.
