Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio continued to focus on the secondary and special teams with his early moves in free agency.
Houston agreed to a deal with cornerback and special teams player Mike Ford, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The contract is for two years and $4.5 million.

This deal comes after the Texans agreed to a deal with Jeff Okudah, Desmond King and Lonnie Johnson, Okudah and King are both backup cornerbacks, while Johnson mostly plays special teams.
Ford is similar to all three players in that he can play on defense but is known mostly for his role on special teams. In his first season with the Cleveland Browns in 2023, Ford played in just 160 defensive snaps while seeing action on 357 special teams snaps.
He previously spent time with the Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions — all in reserve roles or special teams. Ford recorded his first career interception in 2023. He also has 98 combined tackles and six defended passes.
This isn’t a splashy move by any means, and likely won’t have noticeable affects on the Texans in 2024 apart from his play on special teams.
