Tetra Pak unveils the legacy

Tetra Pak Thailand’s new Managing Director points the way to a brighter and more sustainable future, for the company, its customers and their consumers, and the world.

An overwhelming volume of thousands of tonnes of food which goes to waste annually has prompted the world to reassess the causes, as well as to renew efforts to resolve pressing food shortages which get worse as the world becomes increasingly overpopulated.

Responding to the problem, Tetra Pak, a world leading multinational food packaging and processing company, has reaffirmed its vision and commitment to reducing food loss and waste. By implementing advanced technologies and innovations developed in-house together with partners, Tetra Pak is providing solutions of “Protects What’s Good”, the motto that its containers seen all over the world carry.

“Tetra Pak is most widely recognised by the public as a packaging company,” explains Ratanasiri Tilokskulchai, Managing Director, Tetra Pak (Thailand) Limited. “In the food and beverage industry, we are perceived as having great expertise in providing food processing solutions, and our customers which include over 100 brands in Thailand, trust us to provide their packaging solutions.”

Tetra Pak food processing solutions not only guarantee food safety but also ensure raw materials are optimally used, saving them from being discarded where possible. With more food being processed and packed using innovative technologies, Tetra Pak’s customers benefit from improved productivity and a much greater mitigation of waste and energy usage, therefore ultimately boosting nutrition provision for the world.

“With our considerable experience working alongside customers in Thailand and the Asia Pacific region, Tetra Pak’s packaging design and technology plays a vital role in waste mitigation,” the company’s new MD continued.

“Tetra Pak constantly innovates new packaging designs to more effectively sustain the food value chain. A prime example is our newly launched Tetra Recart® package with a lid that replaces steel cans. Its lighter weight overcomes local and international transportation burdens and reduces reliance on steel which is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Our leadership in packaging solutions engages suppliers, government agencies and retailers, to help sustain the entire system as we move forward.”

As Tetra Pak (Thailand) Limited’s first local Managing Director, Ms. Ratanasiri has strong ideas about how Thailand can thrive in global markets.

“Thailand has great potential to be a leading kitchen of the world,” she says. “The recent lockdowns around the world prompted people to cook at home more, and people have learnt that Thai coconut milk, for example, can be widely used as an ingredient in many different cuisines.”

“Our food processing and packaging solutions allow customers to store contents for longer. They are safe in transportation and have a long shelf life at the destination. The aseptic technology also helps prevent deterioration in food quality from sunlight, preserving the nutritional value.”

Over the past 40 years plus, Tetra Pak (Thailand)’s holistic services have been applied to many local and international brands to enable them to embark on new ventures into different territories. With Tetra Pak, they can stay abreast of change and capitalize on new normal opportunities.

“As health-conscious consumers become an ever larger community globally, we are continuing to implement innovative solutions with diverse ranges of food and beverage packaging. Vegetables, fruits, and plant-based beverage production from Thailand are all on upward trends globally, and our innovations support them with the most effective solutions.”

A new bleach-free, natural brown pulp carton packaging, Tetra Pak® Craft, recently introduced to Thai traders, has clean, hygienic, safe and sustainable attributes, adding value to the products they contain. QR-coded cartons facilitate communication and build trust through traceability from upstream to downstream production. Customers and suppliers are reassured of the contents’ origins.

“We work closely with our local food and beverage partners to achieve their goals because we are passionate about them succeeding. During the past two years of intermittent lockdowns and widespread Covid-19, we have remained committed to delivering the best services to our customers. There have been many hurdles and setbacks, but we overcame them.”

Works in progress include provision of local integrated account teams, remote support for technical issues and a livestream platform for customers to receive advice from Tetra Pak’s regional Customer Innovation Centre in Singapore and others around the world.

“We are thankful for all of our employees' efforts and contributions to facilitating our customers’ success.”

Having served Tetra Pak for 11 years, Ratanasiri reaffirms the company’s commitment announced earlier this year to provide the most sustainable food processing and packaging in the world. To do this, it will continue to adhere to the vision it has held throughout its 70-year history to promote renewability and recyclability. Tetra Pak will continue to drive the world forward to be more sustainable and support its customers to achieve success.
