Tesla Recalls 27,000 Cybertrucks Due To Rearview Camera Issue

Tesla in Buffalo

Tesla has announced a recall of approximately 27,000 Cybertrucks due to a rearview camera issue that poses a safety risk. The problem involves a delay in the rearview image being displayed on the dashboard, with the display potentially remaining blank for up to 8 seconds when the vehicle is put in reverse. This exceeds the 2-second limit mandated by US federal safety regulations.

To address this issue, Tesla has released a free over-the-air software update that aims to rectify the problem. In the meantime, drivers are advised to utilize alternative methods such as performing a shoulder check and relying on their mirrors when reversing the Cybertruck.

This latest recall marks the fifth instance of Tesla recalling the electric vehicle since its launch last year. Previous recalls have addressed concerns such as a malfunctioning single windshield wiper, loose plastic trim on the truck bed, and a potentially stuck accelerator pedal. In January, a software recall was issued for 2.2 million Tesla vehicles, including Cybertrucks, to address readability issues with warning lights.

Despite these recalls, Tesla reported an increase in sales for the first time this year. The company delivered nearly 463,000 vehicles globally in the third quarter, representing a 6% rise from the previous year and a 4% increase from the second quarter of this year. However, year-to-date sales still lag behind the same period in 2023.
