Tesla is facing legal challenges as former employees have filed a proposed class action lawsuit in federal court in California. The lawsuit alleges that Tesla violated labor laws by failing to pay overtime and sick time, reimburse work expenses, provide adequate breaks, and give written quotes of expected output to employees. The two workers from Tesla's assembly plant in Fremont are seeking over $5 million in damages and hope to represent thousands of Tesla employees in the lawsuit.
In addition to this lawsuit, Tesla is also dealing with racial harassment and discrimination claims brought by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The complaint alleges that the company allowed harassment against Black workers in its California plants. Furthermore, Tesla is set to go to trial over a lawsuit filed by the family of an Apple engineer who died in a crash involving a Tesla Model X on autopilot.
The family of the deceased engineer claims that the autopilot design is defective and responsible for the crash. Tesla plans to present a second Apple engineer as a witness in the trial to testify that the engineer was playing a game on his phone when the crash occurred, according to court records. Tesla has not yet responded to requests for comment on these legal matters.
