Tesco customers wanting to book their Christmas shops are facing massive queues this morning (Nov 15) as hundreds of thousands all logged on together. People on the website said it was constantly crashing and were told there were 200,000 people in the queue ahead of them.
People also spoke of waiting for more than an hour and some said booking one for their parents was like getting ‘Glastonbury and Peter Kay tickets all at once’. From 6am today, Tesco opened its Christmas bookings, which predictably led to chaos.
Many got up at 5am and said they were already in a queue, leading them to question whether it had in fact started earlier - meaning those who stuck to the rules were at a disadvantage. Others waited for long times having been told they were 191,000th in line.

Many people have taken to Twitter to comment on the long waits. Becca Wilson said: “I stopped shopping in person 2015 because it was too difficult once I moved to a #wheelchair. This morning however, #Tesco provided me with an authentic 1 hr queueing experience - complete with chat to your queue neighbours on twitter #XmasShop #christmas2022” Lynn Batten added: “Is anyone waiting in the Tesco online shopping queue to bag their Christmas slot, it’s very tense. I’m almost at the front, phew."
Paul Sylvester joked: “Got Mum and Dad their Christmas shopping slot at TESCO - I feel like I’ve got Glastonbury and Peter Kay tickets all at once.” Dave Forrester said: “This year’s Xmas shopping slots went reasonably smoothly. Well done. Still the odd glitch like this after waiting for an hour and eventually reaching the front of the queue”
MrBrandwodo added: “I’ve got more chance of getting a reasonably priced, decent seat ticket, to see Peter Kay this year, than booking a Tesco Christmas shopping slot! Over 200,000 people in front of me in the queue!” Paul Sylvester: “Happy “Get your Mum’s Christmas shopping slot booked at Tesco” Eve. Get to bed early so you’re up and online at 6am #Tesco”
Tesco said: "Good Morning, We understand that some customers are experiencing some issues with our app and website we're sorry about this. We are working hard to fix the issue as soon as possible."
