Eager shoppers looking to book in a Christmas delivery slot with Tesco this morning have found themselves waiting in a virtual queue of more than 200,000 other people.
The supermarket chain's website crashed after thousands of shoppers flocked to the website to book in one of its coveted festive delivery slots which opened up today.
By 6am this morning, many shoppers reported being popped into a virtual queue with more than 200,000 other people, while some even said they experienced error messages due to the high demand.
As a result, many flocked to social media to vent their frustration at being unable to get their Christmas delivery slot sorted out, despite arriving before the queue opened.
One shopper shared a screenshot that showed them as number 63,408 in the queue by just 6:19 am - less than 20 minutes after the queue opened and said: "Promising start to book my @Tesco Christmas delivery slot."
"Good morning shoppers! Who else is in the TESCO Christmas delivery slot queue? Current position 118,298", fumed another shopper.
"@Tesco what time did the queue to book a Christmas delivery slot open, as we were only told slots available from 6am, so now I am 75000+.In the queue! If I was made aware a queue was open earlier, I would have joined earlier than I did", tweeted a third.
Other shoppers also reported the website crashing, leading them to being booted out of the queue, only to find themselves being even further down the queue than before.
One angry customer on Facebook wrote: "Christmas Delivery Slots. Shocking. Up at 5:45, got in the queue, not a massive high number. 6:10 got to 0. No way to start a shop go book a slot. Faff around for 5 mins, nothing. Close app and reopen thinking the app will remember me, like all modern apps do, nope queue rest to something about 175,000!
"Wait for an hour, app crashes and resets again. Now I’m 280,000. 1hr 35m, 4 attempts, 3 crashes. F this. Not worth the hassle. Tesco this is shocking and disgraceful for a supposedly modern company."
Another frustrated shopper fumed after losing their slot: "An hour and 40 mins to get a Tesco Christmas slot just to get to 3 mins wait time for the app to crash, close itself then put me back in the queue with more than an hours wait @Tesco #tescochristmasslot."
