Tesco urgently recalls butter containing 'high levels' of E. coli bacteria

A butter product sold at Tesco has been recalled after it was found to contain "high levels of E. coli" bacteria.

The supermarket chain revealed that a certain batch of Trewithen Dairy Unsalted Butter may be contaminated.

While most types of E. coli are harmless, and normally live in the intestines of healthy people, certain strains can cause severe stomach cramps, bloody diarrhoea, and vomiting.

Taking to Facebook, Tesco wrote: "As a precaution, Trewithen Dairy is recalling one batch code of its unsalted butter, as it’s been found to contain high levels of E. coli."

Customers who bought a product from the batch in question should return it immediately to a Tesco store where a full refund will be issued — a receipt is not required.

Those seeking more information should get in touch with Trewithen Dairy Customer Services on 01208 228 700 or Tesco Customer Services on 0800 505 555.
