Tesco takes swipe at EE, O2 and Three and promises price freeze

Supermarket Tesco has hit out at mobile phone companies who are hiking customer prices by as much as 11.7%.

As the UK's cost of living crisis worsens and energy, TV and food prices are increases drastically, several mobile phone companies have also introduced price rises for hard-hit customers. They include 11.7% increases to O2 and Virgin Mobile - the maximum available based on the 7.8% rate of inflation plus an extra 3.9% on top.

EE and Vodafone customers have seen prices rise by 9.3% while Three customers have the lowest rise at 4.5%.

Tesco Mobile has criticised the mobile phone companies and has introduced a price freeze on its mobile tariff that promises zero price rises for the duration of the contract, as well as a place where you can enter your contract details to find out how much you can save.

Tesco Mobile says: "At a time when you’ve got enough to worry about, the big mobile networks are raising your bills. Again. With their latest price hikes, you could lose an average of £107 over the length of a 24-month contract . This means less money for things like the kids’ lunches, petrol for the car, or a phone to stay connected with friends and family."

The supermarket has promised customers that the price they sign up to their contract is the same as the price customers will pay for the duration of that contract.

Customers on EE, Vodafone, Three and Virgin Mobile have been doubly hit this year after the networks reintroduced roaming charges across Europe as a result of Brexit. O2 is the only major mobile network to promise to keep data roaming free for customers in 2022.
