Tesco shoppers upset as supermarket announces free food for certain people

Supermarket giant Tesco has angered shoppers after offering free food to Clubcard holders. The retailer recently announced the news that anyone with a Clubcard can get free food if they buy anything at a Tesco café.

On Facebook, Tesco wrote: "Who said ‘There is no such thing as a free lunch'? Simply make a purchase and show your Clubcard or app at any of our Tesco Cafés to get a free kids meal. It’s just one of the things we are doing to help you spend less with us. #EveryLittleHelps."

Some parents were quick to praise Tesco for the move. Chan Raynor wrote: "This is a fantastic idea! Me and my little boy pop here for lunch occasionally and it’s nice to know his will be free for the summer. Every little does help. Thank you."

Ellen Turner praised: "Well done Tesco this is the best deal I have seen from the supermarkets." Dame Penny said: "Great for those who can afford to make a purchase in your cafe to qualify."

But while many parents were pleased with the free meals gesture, some people pointed out that their local store doesn't have a café, so won't be able to take advantage of the offer.

Sarah Foreman said: "That’s all very well but none of the stores near me have their own cafés anymore; it’s all franchised coffee shops." Sam Murdoch asked: "Where even has it’s own café anymore is there anywhere to find out? Great idea if there is still cafes near those in need."

Kayla Hack moaned: "Most Tesco's round me don't even have their own cafe in store its either a Costa or different coffee chain so completely pointless for us." Clare West said: "Shame our local tesco got rid of their own cafe and it's now a Costa." Rehanna Bhanji said: "Pity our local big tesco doesn't have a cafe."

Jason Richardson said: "Not many Tesco's have a caff but well done for trying." Emma Uttley wrote: "Two tescos where I live and neither have a tesco cafe."

Others rushed to stick up for Tesco. Christine Eynon said: "If I was Tesco and reading all these “ moaning Minnie” comments I would just pull the deal and let them get on with it. Whatever happened to thank you that’s a great help." Alexis Richardson said: "It amazes me when they try something nice and you still get people that moan."

Susan Mills said: "People see a free meal and still find something to moan about." Jeni Corrick said "Can't people just be grateful. You don't have to shop at Tesco!"

EMily Grant said: "It’s shocking to see people are complaining. Imagine buying a carrot for a couple of pence (I haven’t read the T&C so not sure how much minimum to spend to get the meal) to get a meal worth a few quid and yet so many still complaining! Tesco are doing a kind thing, they don’t have to as what it means it losing out on money. The employees are losing out so please remember that before complaining."
