Tesco shoppers have voiced their disgust at the 'unbelievable' price of a popular condiment.
The cost of living crisis has impacted almost every corner of our lives with consumables receiving a massive upheaval in price. High street supermarkets have all increased the price of everyday items but a specific condiment from Tesco has shoppers reeling.
The price of a family sized 910g bottle has risen 60% from £2.49 to £3.99, according to The Grocer. The amount is considerably higher than even November last year, when prices of Heinz tomato ketchup were £3.50 from Asda and Sainsbury's.

However, it has now been dwarfed by the “extortionate” £4.40 spotted in some Tesco stores recently by dumbfounded customers wanting to add a splash of tomato to their dinners, the Mirror reported.
One consumer said: “Ketchup is £4.40 in Tesco, who is responsible for this?” Another added: “Tomatogeddon 2023, like cocaine, if you can afford to pay this for ketchup you have too much money.”
A third said: “£4.40 for Heinz Ketchup yesterday from Tesco!” Another added: “I saw a bottle of ketchup in Tesco for £4.50…what happened to Tesco standing up to the price gougers?”
One final shopper said: “I used to spend £2 on Bisto Best. It’s now £4+. Ketchup £4. Own brand cat food has doubled to £4.90 for only 6 cans-used to get 12 for £5. Chicken breast £3.75 now £6+. It’s unsustainable, unaffordable and terrifying.”
It comes amid a crippling cost of living crisis as shoppers struggle to make their cash go far enough to feed their families. The price lock will not only cover fresh, frozen, and cupboard items, but it will also expand to health and beauty products as well as pet food and household products such as detergent.
Jason Tarry, chief executive of Tesco said: “As we start the New Year, we know times are tough for many of our customers right now.
“We hope this extended price lock commitment gives our customers the certainty of knowing that over a thousand household favourites and own brand essentials will stay at the same low price for months to come – helping them budget when they need it most.”
