Tesco shopper praises £3 energy saving washing up item and coins it 'game-changer'

One savvy Tesco shopper has claimed that a new washing up liquid saves them money on energy bills - and is seriously impressed with the item's sparkling results.

Fairy have now released a washing up liquid that contains a new formula, meaning it can be used with cold water, reports Chronicle Live. This will help customers save on water heating costs, while still giving dishes a "brilliant clean" in the same time as hot water would, according to the brand themselves.

The product has been eyed up on the shelves of Tesco, B&M and Wilko, but many have shared their scepticism on how the liquid would actually work just as well with cold water.

One shopper decided to put this argument to the test, and MyLondon reporter Kieran Kelly has stated that the result was "astonishing". He has hailed the new formula as a game-changer after nabbing it for £3 at Tesco.

Kieran has found that washing his dishes in cold water with Fairy's new product has made "absolutely no difference" compared to using it in hot water instead.

It is also available in a festive wild berry scent, and can be recognised by its label that reads: "brilliant in cold, save energy". The item initially had shoppers divided when they first heard about it.

When one savvy shopper posted the item into a popular Facebook bargain group, some said that they didn't fancy the idea of having their hands in cold water, while others doubted that it would be as effective at banishing bacteria.

Biomedical scientist Dr Nicky Milner debunked this idea in an investigation by the BBC, revealing: "It’s really about the scrubbing action. Research has shown that the temperature of the water doesn’t really make a difference.

"So a good scrub is more important than the water temperature. And research has shown that using washing up liquid to kill bacteria is important."

After this, many shoppers were keen to try the washing up liquid to save them money on their water heating bills, which could be a huge help to many with the rising cost of living. One Facebook user said: "It's a great idea! Just sad times that energy costs so much people have to wash in cold water these days to save a little off their bills."

Another commented: "This is a brilliant idea not just for money saving but what about if your boiler goes? You still need to wash up and cheaper than boiling the kettle twice just to rinse some dishes."

A third shopper wrote: "Wow, thank you for sharing this. I have two young babies so often forget to wash up leaving the water to go cold. Will definitely be trying a bottle of this! Every little helps."
