Tesco has increased the price of its famous meal deal, with customers set to pay more from Monday - even if you have a Clubcard.
The supermarket confirmed that a meal deal will now cost £3.90 for those who don’t have a Clubcard, up from £3.50. Meanwhile, Clubcard holders will pay £3.40 instead of the previous £3 price - meaning an increase of 40p per meal deal for every customer.
The hike is the first time that the price of the popular lunch combo has increased in over a decade, The Mirror reports . Tesco assured customers that they can still make savings of up to £3 with the deal, which includes a main, snack and drink - and if your selection adds up to less than the new price, you will only pay the cheaper combined cost of the items.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “ Clubcard members will pay just £3.40 for a main, snack and drink, making our meal deal an ideal way to grab a great value lunch on-the-go. And with savings of up to £3 on millions of possible combinations across our stores, including the recent addition of Costa hot drinks, and our ever-popular Christmas sandwiches which join the meal deal for the festive period, we’ve got something for every taste.”
But shoppers reacted to the news on social media as the announcement of the new prices quickly sparked a backlash. “Tesco is raising the meal deal price - the world’s done to chaos,” one person tweeted.
“The Tesco meal deal is a cornerstone of my diet. I’m outraged,” another said.
A third wrote: “After a year of denial, I’m now ready to believe inflation is a thing. Tesco meal deal up to £3.40 - dark day for this nation.”
“Tesco meal deals going up to £3.40 WITH a Clubcard?” another Twitter user said. “Fuming.”
While another unhappy shopper simply put: “As if this country couldn’t get any worse.”
