Tesco have launched a pizza deal to rival takeaways - but shoppers aren’t happy

Tesco Clubcard holders can get their hands on a meal deal that could rival takeaway giants like Dominos. And despite costing less than a takeaway, customers have been complaining about the price of the supermarket offer.

The pizza deal sees shoppers snap up two large pizzas, two sides and a dip stacker for £12, saving around £5.50 than if they’d paid full price.

However, some customers noticed that the deal - which ends on Tuesday, July 19 - previously cost less.

Responding to a post from Money Saving Central telling followers about the offer, one shopper said: “It used to be £10.” Another added: “This used to also be £10, they've increased their price.”

“Used to be a tenner and used to have better value,” wrote a third.

Others were quick to point out that rival supermarkets have similar deals at lower prices. One wrote: “Can get 2 pizzas, 2 sides and 4 cans of drinks in Morrisons for £10.”

“It’s only £6 in Asda for 2 pizzas, side and a pack of 4 cans of coke,” added a fifth.

Tesco has defended the deal - which is only available to Clubcard holders - saying it’s ‘great value’.

A Tesco spokesperson told Manchester Evening News: “Our Pizza Company Meal Deal for Two is the perfect treat for the weekend - and at £12 for two pizzas, two sides and a stacker dip, it’s great value.”

As part of the deal customers can choose from two of five different pizzas from The Pizza Company, as well as sides like Cajun Onion Rings and Garlic Bread, and a choice of BBQ flaming hot garlic dip, or classic garlic and herb.

Tesco added: “With household budgets under increasing pressure we are absolutely committed to helping our customers, by keeping a laser focus on the cost of the weekly shop. We have significantly increased the number of value lines we offer and
whether it’s price matching basics to Aldi prices, promising Low Everyday Prices on household staples, or offering exclusive deals and rewards through thousands of Clubcard Prices – we’re more committed than ever to providing our customers with great value.”
