Tesco flooded with complaints as meal deals change in all supermarkets

Earlier this week, supermarket giant Tesco announced a change to all supermarkets that affects anyone with a Clubcard. While some have opened the Tesco updates with open arms, others have taken to social media to complain about it.

Tesco has made a change to its meal deal option so shoppers can choose from more 'luxurious' items from brands like Yo! Sushi and Itsu. But with more premium products comes a more premium price tag.

The new meal deal is now available in 1,200 Tesco stores, the new meal deal sits alongside the supermarket’s existing £3.40 meal deal but will offer customers the option of a "premium" main, snack and drink.

With the new additions, Tesco now says there are a possible four million different combinations shoppers can choose from when buying a meal deal. Some shoppers have also noted that you can get a hot Costa coffee as part of the deal, and by doing so people are saving money by combining their morning caffeine hit with their lunch.

But despite the Tesco Meal Deal's perks, some shoppers have been left rattled by the changes. Social media has been flooded with complaints about the price of the new £5 meal deal - even for those with a Clubcard.

Posting on Facebook, Nicky Grimstead said: "Tesco meal deal £5.50 £5.00 with Clubcard. That price has creeped up a bit hasn't it."

Bernie Parkinson slammed: "Meal Deal - Lucozade 500 ml £1.69 Lucozade in soft drinks section 900ml £1.39 ??? That’s what I call No Deal." Gareth Thomas said: "Ouch that’s a lot. Is that just their London pricing. I know they have gone up to 3.60 here but £5 is quite a leap just because it’s London."

Debbie Peters slammed: "£5 for a snack people won't have money left over to cook." Brewer Teena said: "No one going to be buying meal deals, people can just about afford groceries with the price hike……"

Karen Quinn pointed out: "Can go to brewers fayre and get 2 meals for a pound more." Adam Ratcliffe said: "P*ss takers. Could feed a family of 4 for that.

Ann Fowler said: "Ridiculous cant see that lasting long ,maybe in London but out in the country." On Twitter, @ceeace9 tweeted: "5 great British pounds for a tesco meal deal? we riot." @BamBamCP said: "So when are we all fighting Tesco? how is a meal deal now £5."

@cityboyhamz wrote: "Tesco meal deal now a fiver? they’re taking the p*ss." @OfficialJafro said: "Nah Tesco meal deal is now £5 I’m genuinely hurt."

@RayRaySLDN slammed: "Tesco funny as hell still calling it a “Meal Deal” my friend, if you paying £5, that’s just called a meal." @ItzMikeO said: "£5 for a Tesco meal deal? You better use that fiver to make spag bol and eat for 2 days compadre"

@Zzzains said; "£5 for a tesco meal deal might as well go m&s." @U_Khalid1 joked: "Tesco need to start accepting klarna for these meal deal prices."

Responding to the changes, Alessandra Bellini, Tesco's chief customer officer, said: "We know that our Tesco Meal Deal is hugely popular with our customers, and is a lunchtime staple for millions of people day in, day out.

"But sometimes you want to treat yourself to something a little special, and the new premium meal deal gives our shoppers the opportunity to upgrade their usual lunch choices. Featuring a wide range of mains including new Finest and Wicked Kitchen sandwiches and salads, as well as options from itsu, YO! Sushi and Pollen & Grace, there are over four million combinations to be tried."
