Tesco driver 'refuses to deliver to woman's static home over safety fears'

A woman claims Tesco refused to deliver to her static home park where she lives because drivers “felt unsafe”.

Wendy Marks said she thought the excuse was “laughable” , saying her home at Mayfield Park in West Drayton is “the safest place I have ever lived”.

The 53-year-old warehouse worker described how she said her delivery did not arrive during her allotted time slot of between 3pm and 4pm, reports My London.

At 5pm, she said she checked the online tracker, which she said reported that her driver had tried to deliver her order at 2.40pm and failed because she wasn’t home.

Wendy said she works four 12-hour shifts a week with a one-hour commute each way, so always schedules her deliveries for her day off.

She told MyLondon she doesn’t drive and finds that taking the bus to the supermarket ends up being more expensive than the home delivery option. She claims that she had been at home all day on delivery day and claims no driver had attempted to call and tell her that they were trying to deliver her shopping.

Wendy said she managed to get through to the Tesco Yeading store via Tesco’s Helpline and she claims they told her “they no longer deliver to ‘caravan parks" as the drivers felt unsafe” after an incident at another site, Mansion Lane, a few miles away. She stressed that Mayfield Park is not a ‘caravan park’ but a static home residential park.

She then said she asked: “Why did no one even have the courtesy to phone me to advise the delivery would not be happening?

"They just left me sitting there all afternoon waiting.” She added that she did not understand why deliveries weren’t just stopped at the Mansion Lane site where the incident took place, rather than “discriminating against every other home park in the area”.

Wendy said she demanded that she receive her shopping as the money for the order had already been taken from her bank account. When she eventually received her delivery at 10.30am the next day, she claims 'the driver made a big show of constantly looking over his shoulder'. Wendy added: "I asked why, and he said he was being cautious."

After this, the 53-year-old said she emailed a lengthy complaint to the store and eventually managed to get hold of Tesco head office, but she claims they told her that the individual stores decide where they will deliver to.

“It’s a joke,” Wendy said. “I’ve had no compensation for my wasted time. I’m really disappointed. I’ve had to move to using other supermarket home delivery services and I would be put off using Tesco again.”

A Tesco spokesperson for the supermarket said: “We’re really sorry for the misunderstanding that led to Ms Marks’ not receiving her grocery order. We have reviewed the store’s delivery locations and are delivering to customers in both Mayfield Park and Mansion Lane.”
