Tesco is shaking up its delivery pass offer, including reintroducing an annual pass and launching a new, cheaper click and collect pass. The supermarket giant closed its annual pass during the pandemic, but has started offering it again - and if you get more than two Tesco orders a month, it's worth getting one.
The big four supermarkets all offer delivery saver passes to help to reduce the cost of online shopping, with users paying either a monthly or one-off upfront fee to cover the cost of home deliveries. If you order regularly to your home, it can be cheaper than paying a delivery charge each time you shop.
Although Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons and selected Aldi stores also offer shoppers the option to click and collect their order, Tesco is so far the first retailer to offer a six-month click and collect pass, and again, if you use this service more than once a month, the pass is worth getting.

So how do the savings add up? Tesco charges between £3.50 and £7 for a one-off delivery slot, with the most expensive slots being on weekends and the cheapest being daytime midweek slots. However, if you pay £83.88 a year - or £6.99 a month - you can have as many deliveries as you want as long as they are over £40 each, or else you will pay an extra £4. If you want to save more and you are prepared to take your deliveries after 3pm on any day, you can save even more with an off-peak pass, costing £47.88 a year or £3.99 a month.
A six-month click and collect delivery pass costs £14.94 upfront or £2.49 a month, which allows you to pick up orders in store at any chosen time. Click and Collect costs a minimum of £1.50 a pop, so the monthly fee is less than the cost of two orders. For click and collect, the minimum spend is £25.
The way Tesco offers its delivery passes is slightly different to the other three market leaders, as you only have the option to sign up for either six or 12 months, although you can pay monthly for both. If you only want to commit to six months, the price goes up to £4.99 for off-peak and ££7.99 for anytime. You can also get weekend delivery with a Tesco off-peak pass, as long at you stick to after 3pm slots.
Although the Tesco delivery pass is a good deal, it's not necessarily the best deal for everyone, depending on how long you want to commit to use one supermarket and whether you want to part with a whole year's payment at a time. If you want freedom to take your deliveries whenever you like, Morrisons is currently cheapest anytime annual pass at £65, and you have the option for pay for this monthly at £6 per month. . |If you don't want to commit to 12 months,, you can opt for a monthly pass, although the price goes up to £8. If you only want delivery off-peak the price comes down to £35 for an annual pass or £5 for a monthly pass.
Sainsbury's offer an annual pass for £80 or £40 for midweek delivery and the supermarket's mid-week monthly delivery pass is the best buy at £4. Asda gives no option for monthly passes, and charges £72 annually for anytime or £35 for midweek.
