Tesco has become the latest supermarket to withdraw Russian related products from UK stores in response to the countries invasion of Ukraine.
The move from the supermarket giant comes after they received pressure from customers to remove Russian products from shelves as the war in Ukraine intensifies.
It follows after Morrisons and Co-op made the decision to remove products such as Russian-based vodka from their shelves - becoming the first UK supermarkets to do so.
Tesco shoppers had taken to the supermarket's Facebook page to urge them to follow in the foot-steps of other supermarkets who pulled the products from their stores, reports Cornwall Live.
Shopper Bev Vockins recently commented: "Still no answer on when you are going to stop promoting Russian vodka - shame on you. Go Sainsburys, Go Waitrose, Go Co Op, Go Morrisons - you are all amazing. Tesco, in the words of Game of Thrones, SHAME.SHAME.SHAME."
Customer Alice Grant said: “Please remove all Russian made products as soon as possible. All your main competitors are already doing so.”
Shopper Thomas Wilkinson also posted a picture of Russian vodka in his local store with the comment: “Can we get rid of this please I don’t think its appropriate to advertise/make money with this vodka at the moment.”
In response, Tesco has said that it will stop importing products from the country, but they have yet to confirm when it will remove the products from stores.
A spokesman for Tesco said: "We will not be buying products from businesses that are wholly Russian owned and we are supporting humanitarian relief efforts through our partnerships with the Red Cross, food banks and other relief organisations to help those affected in Ukraine and neighbouring countries.”
Since the conflict began last month, many of the countries biggest grocers and retailers have come out in support for the people of Ukraine by donations and the removal of Russian-linked products from stores.
“In response to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces and as a sign of solidarity with the people of Ukraine we’ve taken the decision to remove from sale Russian-made Vodka,” said a spokesman for the Co-op, Britain’s seventh biggest supermarket group said.
The spokesperson added that vodka had been removed as it is "overtly marketed as being Russian” and is produced in the country.
Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Waitrose will also no longer sell Russian Standard vodka either.
Asda has also made a similar decision, as the supermarket chain announced that they will remove a variety of Russian products from online and store shelves.
