Tesco and Heinz issue update on row which has left shelves empty

Supermarket chain Tesco has reached a deal with food giant Heinz to get its full range of products back on shelves after a row between the companies. The US food giant had paused supplies to Tesco briefly amid a dispute over pricing, opening up gaps in some of the supermarket’s aisles.

In a joint statement they said: “Tesco and Heinz are pleased to have reached an agreement that will see the full range of Heinz products return to Tesco shelves and online, continuing to offer our customers great value on the nation’s favourite Heinz varieties. Lorries full of Heinz products including Heinz Tomato Ketchup and Heinz Beanz will hit the road shortly, and Tesco colleagues will be working hard to ensure shelves are filled again over the coming days.

“With British summertime finally here, Tesco shoppers will be able to get all the essentials they need for their perfect summer salad or barbecue, including the Heinz varieties they know and love. It’s great to be back together.”

Gaps have appeared on the shelves over recent days after reports both Heinz/Kraft and Mars had paused deliveries to the supermarket giant. Stocks of products including baked beans, soup, ketchup and salad cream were all running down with many stores without the popular brands.

The Mars dispute affected pet food including Whiskas, Dreamies, Pedigree, Sheba and Crave. It is not known if any agreement has been reached between the two.

Earlier this week a spokeswoman for Mars said: “We are aware that some of our Petcare products are currently out of stock at Tesco stores. We want to reassure pet owners that their favourite products are in supply and remain widely available in the UK marketplace.

“There are many reasons why our products may be out of stock in certain stores from time to time. We cannot comment on individual commercial relationships or situations.”
