Terrifying Kilmarnock youth gang rob shop for booze with 'plastic toy gun'

A youth gang robbed a Kilmarnock shop for alcohol last night using a plastic toy gun.

The four young assailants threatened staff at the Samson Avenue store around 5.40pm before escaping with two bottles of booze in the direction of Walker Avenue.

They are described as aged around 16. One was dressed all in black, one was wearing a T-shirt and dark shorts with a white stripe down the side; another was wearing a bright blue T-shirt with dark shorts and the other a grey T-shirt.

Police say the incident has left staff upset despite being uninjured in the raid.

Detective Sergeant Jamie Carruth, of Kilmarnock CID, said: “Fortunately, no one was injured but staff were left upset and frightened by what happened.

“I am asking anyone who saw these youths before or after the incident to get in touch. Also, if you have dash-cam or private CCTV that can assist with our investigation please make contact with officers. Police will be conducting additional high visibility patrols in the area.”

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 2822 of Wednesday, August 31, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Known as Kelly's Store, this latest incident is just one of a handful of attacks on the shop.

In January this year, shopkeeper Saman Sami was attacked in the store.

In January 2020, thieves ransacked £12,000 of stock from the outlet.
