Terrifying AI-generated selfie images reveal what the last day on Earth could look like

The last day on Earth for humanity is hopefully a very long time away but that has not stopped the imagination wondering what it will be like.

One social media user has taken it upon themselves to pose the question of what the last selfie taken on the planet might be using creepy artificial intelligence (AI) pictures.

Called Robot Overloards, the TikTok account says it will post daily 'disturbing AI generated images' of what the future looks like.

It used the DALL-E2 image generator to whip up doomy visions of life for people during the final moments of the apocalypse.

What it shows are some quite frankly terrifying visions of how it all might end.

Mutant-like humans can be seen holding up their mobile phones for a quick snap as large fires and billowing smoke erupts behind them.

One bloody-faced man seems to be screaming at the horror surrounding him.

The gruesome images have racked up almost 20 million views over three separate posts during the past week.

The DALL-E2 is an image generator that was launched by technology company Open AI in July after the original DALL-E was released in January 2021.

It is said to be named after the robot from the 2008 animated film WALL-E.

The powerful second generation algorithm has gone viral and is trained to use text to generate pictures, from the amusing to the unsettling.

There were reports of one million people on its waiting list, which works by either using credits bought or a limited amount of free ones each month.

The good news is that, despite being able to create plenty of scary apocalyptic visons, it should just remain an online gadget for fun.

According to Open AI: "We’ve limited the ability for DALL·E 2 to generate violent, hate, or adult images.

"By removing the most explicit content from the training data, we minimized DALL·E 2’s exposure to these concepts.

"We also used advanced techniques to prevent photorealistic generations of real individuals’ faces, including those of public figures."

Other bizarre Robot Overloards posts include AI images of what claustrophobia feels like, what hell looks like and what it looks like inside the mind of a serial killer.
