Two terrified puppies were found crammed in a jeep without water or ventilation at Dublin Port.
Customs officers made the distressing find after discovering the adorable pair crammed into a crate.
The vehicle was stopped by the authorities on Friday afternoon as part of a routine check.
The pups, who have been named Cosmo and Wanda, are just 10 weeks old and have been surrendered to the DSPCA.
A spokesperson for the charity said poor Cosmo was terrified and screamed when the vets tried to examine him.
They added: "He was so shut down and tried to make himself as small as he could, hiding behind his little sister hoping that we wouldn't see him. Just heartbreaking.
"Wanda was a little braver and kept a close eye on her big brother throughout their whole ordeal.
"They are now going to need lots of care, time and patience."
