Terrified man 'had epileptic fit' after being chased and attacked by ex-girlfriend

A terrified man had an epileptic fit after being chased down and attacked by his ex-girlfriend. Sara Abdulla, 37, chased her former lover into a railway station before beating him, reports Hull Live.

Hull Crown Court heard the incident occurred earlier this year, with the man seen running to Hull Paragon railway station and the defendant in pursuit. Connor Stuart, prosecuting, says the man asked his former partner to 'leave him alone' but the 37-year-old caught up and demanded an apology.

The victim stated they were unsure what she was talking about before being punched in the head by Abdulla. There was a tussle between the pair before Abdulla grabbed the man and swung him to the ground.

She then punched him in the face and kicked the victim to the body. At this point, the man shouted he was epileptic and began having a fit, whilst the defendant continued to punch him.

The prosecutor says at this stage a witness managed to intervene to pull the defendant away from the man. The man was put into the recovery position by the witness and the victim was going in and out of consciousness.

Abdulla then walked off from the scene and tried to get into a taxi but she was arrested outside the railway station on on January 19. Stuart says the man had since died but his death was nothing to do with the attack by Abdulla.

Julia Baggs, mitigating, said: "She simply has little or no memory of the incident at all. She was incredibly intoxicated.

"She is, by her own admission, an alcoholic. She has laboured under this difficulty for some considerable period of time.

"She is completely appalled by her own behaviour. She apologises to the court and the police and would wish to send her condolences to the family of the complainant for the sad loss."

Judge John Thackray KC told Abdulla: "This appalling attack related to your former partner and that makes it more serious because of the breach of trust. He was entitled to be in your company without being assaulted. It's not the first time you have appeared before the courts for offences of violence.

"The courts have been doing their best and giving you chances over a number of years. Despite all of those chances, you have gone on to commit this serious offence.

"There was an element of this being a persistent assault, with numerous blows being inflicted upon your victim. Your victim was experiencing an epileptic fit.

"The offence is so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified. I am not satisfied that your risk can be managed in the community nor that you can be rehabilitated in the community because you have had so many chances in the past and you have gone on to commit this offence."

Abdulla was jailed for one year.
