Terrified B&M shoppers evacuated after witnesses heard '6 gunshots' at Farmfoods car park

Armed police were called out to a Farmfoods car park after reports of a shooting in Derby. Alarmed shoppers were evacuated from a nearby B&M store after witnesses heard ''six gunshots'' that are now understood by Derbyshire Police to have came from a police station next door.

Derbyshire Police have confirmed that a man has been taken into hospital after the incident. The force tweeted: "Officers are currently in attendance at an incident at Ascot Drive police station in Derby. Ascot Drive is currently closed, and a man has been taken to hospital."

Emma Smalley, 28, was doing her shopping in B&M at the time of the alleged shooting' and told DerbyshireLive : "We heard about six massive bangs and didn’t know what it was at the time. Everyone got evacuated. I’ve had to leave everything in there.

“I just thought it was banging. I didn’t know whether it was a delivery for B&M or someone in the warehouse. It was noisy. It’s quite scary to think that if I’d been any later getting there I could’ve witnessed it. I’ve got a three-year-old with me as well.”

Another witness, Tom Parker, 26, said: "We were in the factory just further down from Ascot Drive and we heard around six gunshots and then came running outside and saw about six to eight police cars came firing past. It was pretty scary."

An individual who works in the area also said they heard "gunshots", which sounded "like a load of beer barrels falling off a lorry".

A spokesman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 10:03am today, Friday, October 7, to a private address in Derby. The caller reported a medical emergency.

"We sent three paramedics in three ambulance cars, a crewed ambulance and the air ambulance was also in attendance. We transported one patient to Queen’s Medical Centre via land ambulance."
