Terence Crawford responds to Errol Spence call-out after Yordenis Ugas stoppage

Errol Spence and Terence Crawford verbally agreed to an undisputed clash on social media after Spence stopped Yordenis Ugas on Saturday night.

Spence was in complete control against his fellow welterweight world champion before the fight was waved off in the 10th round. Spence, who has recovered from a serious car accident and a torn retina in recent years, called on Crawford to finally meet him the ring to crown one 147lb champion.

“Everybody knows who I want next, I want Terence Crawford next," he said. "That’s the fight that I want, that’s the fight everybody else wants. Terence, I’m coming for that motherf****** belt." Crawford took to social media immediately to say: "Congratulations, great fight. Now the real fight happens. No more talk, no more side of the street, let’s go!!!" Spence replied: "Say less".

Ugas had won his world title by stepping in to replace Spence and fight Manny Pacquiao last year. He outpointed the legendary Filipino in what was his final fight. But he struggled in making the step up against Spence.

The Cuban did knock out his rival's mouthpiece in the sixth round with an uppercut but Spence responded in a one-sided fight, leaving Ugas' eye completely closed. The referee stopped the contest in the third last round to allow the doctor to examine the injury before the bout was waved off.

Spence, who had been out of the ring for 17 months, added: "I believe that you’re going to go through trials and tribulations. I went through a lot of trials. I got tested and I passed the tests due to my upbringing. My mother and my father always telling me not to quit and not to give up and just believing in myself and my family. I wanted to prove them wrong, and I knew that I could come back. Why would I quit now?”

Spence and Crawford were previously represented by rival promoters but the latter is now a free agent after leaving Bob Arum's Top Rank last year. There now appears no barrier to the fight finally taking place later this year.
