Teofimo Lopez claims negotiations are underway with Josh Taylor over bout for super lightweight belts

Teofimo Lopez claims negotiations are underway with Josh Taylor over bout for super lightweight belts

TEOFIMO LOPEZ has claimed that he is in negotiations with Josh Taylor over a bout for the Scot’s four super lightweight titles.

Lopez had ruled at lightweight until he lost his WBA, IBF and WBO belts to George Kambosos Jnr last November and is eyeing a step up in division.

Undisputed champion Taylor had made it clear after his controversial split points win over Jack Catterall that he was also looking to move up seven pounds to welterweight but Lopez insists he is in talks with the Scot’s team over a fight.

The American (16-1-0) said: “We are currently negotiating a fight with Taylor for the title of absolute world champion in super lightweight.

“It looks like we’re working on some stuff, so we’ll figure it out

“The boss (Bob Arum) is looking forward to that opportunity. So we are working on this meeting and we will see what comes out of it. I intend to win this category, I am still the boss.”

Taylor has a decision to make over his future after recently being ordered by the WBA and WBC to fulfil mandatory fights against Alberto Puello and Jose Zepeda respectively at 140lbs.
