Tens of thousands of euros raised in memory of Dr Emer Holohan

Tens of thousands of euros have been donated to a cancer charity in memory of Dr Emer Holohan in the two days since her tragic death.

The wife of Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan passed away following a lengthy illness. She had been living with a form of blood cancer since 2012.

Her death notice posted on Friday included a footnote advising anyone who wished to donate to an online fundraiser set up by Terenure College sixth year students.

By teatime yesterday the GoFundMe ‘shave or dye challenge’ in aid of the Irish Cancer Society had realised €52,511 of its €60,000
target.

Some 375 people had donated to the page within the previous 24 hours,
and hundreds of them left messages of condolence for Dr Holohan and
his children Clodagh and Ronan.

Messages on RIP described the mother-of-two as a “beautiful” and “brave lady”.

She will be laid to rest following a private funeral on Monday.
