A Tennessee woman wants to know why a police officer shot her dog RJ in front of her, and wants to see the officer who pulled the trigger be punished, according to a report.

The incident happened five months ago when a police officer knocked on her door. The officer was in the area after a neighbor had called police. In a video, the officer is seen approaching Sandra Thomas' door. As she opens the door to greet the officer, RJ, her 23-pound dachsund-mix dog, runs outside and engages the officer, ABC-24 reported.

"When I saw him go for his gun, I really didn't know what he was gonna do with it," she told ABC-24. "I still remember seeing the shocked look on the officer's face when he shot the little dog."

The officer called for assistance and said he had been attacked and bitten by a dog, ABC-24 reported. A police report states that the officer refused medical treatment. He was suspended for three days without pay by the Memphis police department for violating department policy.

"Seeing what I saw and losing my best friend, and just not comprehending how someone can do this and it be ok, because it's definitely not ok," Thomas told the station.
