Department and community members are mourning the loss of a London police officer that was killed early Sunday morning. Kentucky State Police officials are saying Officer Logan Medlock’s cruiser was hit by a suspected drunk driver at an intersection.
During a press conference, KSP Trooper Scottie Pennington said his organization is looking into the collision.
“They’re just trying to find everything and put pieces of the puzzle back together and see what caused this accident and this tragic loss to this community and this department, and to this family,” Pennington said.
Trooper Pennington said some progress has been made.
“It’s an investigation. We have arrested one white male, he has been charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, DUI first and aggravated circumstances. He has also been charged with murder of a police officer.”
The suspect has been identified by police as 36-year-old Casey P. Byrd of Oneida, Tennessee. Officer Medlock had been a member of the department since 2019, prior to that he worked for the Laurel County Correction Center.
