THREE teams have been selected for the Tennent's Lager race to Germany ahead of the kick-off of the first Euros game this summer.
The popular Scottish lager brand Tennent’s has revealed its three finalist teams who will be competing against each other in a race to Munich to catch the opening game at the Euros: Germany vs Scotland.
The three teams selected beat more than 750 applicants from across the country and will take part in a 1200-mile race to Germany by using any means possible.
Beth Wallace and William Wallace from Aberdeen, Ewan Oman and Chris Gibson from Peterhead, and Paul Mullan and Euan McLelland from Paisley are the three teams to compete.
The three pairs will answer riddles to win prizes at some of Europe’s biggest sporting venues and there’ll be a host of special guest appearances from Scottish football legends from past and present.
The first team to reach the finish line will join the Scotland supporters in Germany for the length of the group stages.
Tennent's said they will also win flights and accommodation with the Scotland team for future away games.
There will also be spot prizes for the teams to win which range from Tennent’s Lager kegs, a pair of John McGinn’s signed glasses, and Stuart Armstrong’s hair gel.
Hazel Alexander, senior brand manager at Tennent’s, said: “We cannot wait to watch the race unfold between William and Beth, Ewan and Chris, and Euan and Paul in June.
“We’ll be watching with bated breath to see how each team gets on, and who will be crowned the winners.
“This summer is going to be massive for both sports and Tennent’s, and we’ll be backing Scotland all the way!”
The “dynamic duo” Beth and William who are die-hard Aberdeen fans said: “Being chosen to take on the race feels like we’ve won already, but of course now we’re part of it – we’re going to do everything to try and win.
“We already live together and we’re best mates, so we’re simply looking forward to making more memories together, taking on the challenges as they come, and meeting some Scottish footballing legends along the way.”
Oman and Gibson, founding members of the North East Tartan Army, say the challenge is “a dream come true” as they hope to be cheering on the Scottish team in Germany.
They said: “We eat, sleep, breathe Scotland and love Tennent’s, so when we saw the opportunity, we couldn’t miss it.
“Qualifying is a momentous, even emotional, moment for Scotland so we just had to be part of the action.
“With running our own businesses, we’re used to problem solving so cannot wait to take on the challenges, and even a night bus or two!”
Mullan and McLelland who are part of the self-proclaimed “lost generation” of Scotland fans who grew up watching the team never making any European tournaments said the race to Germany is right up their street.
They said: “We’ve heard amazing stories from friends and family about following Scotland across the world, but we’ve never had the chance – until now!
“We are passionate Scotland fans so we needed to be part of the moment to finally have our own stories to tell. We love adventure and football – so the race was right up our street, and we’re here for the win!”
