The jewel in Wales' tourism crown has been named the UK's top trending staycation spots for this summer. Tenby in Pembrokeshire beat the likes of popular tourist destinations St. Ives, Newquay and Whitby in research conducted by holidaycottages.co.uk.
Looking at where had the highest number of bookings for early summer and the summer holidays, the three dominating regions are, understandably, seaside hotspots: Wales, Devon and Cornwall. And if you take a look at these stunning pictures of Tenby itself, taken by Welsh photographer Paul Deverson, you'll see why it bagged number one.
Speaking about the popularity of staycation holidaying and this top ten list, head of branding at holidaycottages.co.uk, Juliette Parry, said: "With staycations continuing to prove popular this summer, it’s great to see that people are looking to stay in some of the most beautiful places in the country.

"While seaside destinations are naturally in demand across the country, there are of course plenty of beauty spots that can be found off the beaten track to enjoy for those seeking a bit of rest and relaxation away from the crowds. Take for example Arne on the Isle of Purbeck, Dorset, which is home to the famous RSPB nature reserve popularised by BBC’s Autumnwatch and Winterwatch programmes.
"Another great place to visit is Reedham in the Norfolk Broads – an idyllic river fronted village which is famous for having one of the last railway swing bridge and chain ferries in the country. We hope these insights give holidaymakers food for thought when considering where they might choose to stay for a UK-based summer break."
A popular stop off point for celebrities to unwind - the likes of Sex Education's Asa Butterfield, Strictly Come Dancing's Rhys Stephenson, Love Island's Liberty Poole and American actor Forest Whitaker have been spotted here - the pretty town of Tenby has so much to offer people who come here for some much need rest and recoup.
Named as the UK's second prettiest town (falling just behind the Lake District's Keswick) in 2021 thanks to its colourful seafront houses and quaint cobbled streets, Tenby has a historical Norman castle to indulge you in a slice of history and also has a myriad of little cafes in which to fill your bellies and watch the world go by - such as The Dennis Cafe, The Stowaway Cafe and Tap and Tan, among so many others. There's even a brand new event coming to the harbourfront this summer - Tenby Round Table. Read more on that here.
