Tenby apartment with a hidden roof terrace where you get the best sea views

When you have a special home in a prime coastal spot it can be tempting to just revel in the glorious and uninterrupted sea views from the windows.

But if you can be a bit clever and somehow manage to create some outside space with a view too, you will take the property to another level.

Find some space outside to fully enjoy a sea view, however wee that space might be, and it will certainly add value to the property as well as an extra private area to enjoy.

If your home is a flat that is nestled amongst the clusters of pretty period homes painted in pastel shades within the coastal town of Tenby, outside space is a luxury.

Amongst the converted, multi-storey townhouses along the prime cliff-hugging roads it's even less likely to find a private spot to sit outside and immerse yourself in the views.

You might have to 'make do' with stunning sea views from the windows and four or five steps across the road to one of the benches that overlooks one of the town's beautiful Blue Flag awarded beaches - not exactly a hardship.

Not many apartments in the Pembrokeshire town can boast a private pocket of outdoor space, especially ones found within a converted period property and surely not one on the top floor.

But that's where the genius of this Tenby apartment for sale shines brightly.

Yes, it's a top floor flat within a converted loft space, but that means there's a slice of the roof between the front bay facade and the sloping main roof.

And it's an area that has captured the home owner's imagination.

Not everyone would have the vision to see this little slice of roof as a potential place to deck out and create a seating area.

But now, through a door tucked away in the corner of the open-plan living room, there's a perfectly placed bench seat waiting for you.

From here there's a magnificent, panoramic 180 degree view overlooking St Catherines Island and the sweeping sands of Castle Beach.

The view stretches around the headland below and cascades away along South Beach that hugs the coastline for miles.

You could easily sit in the sun on this roof terrace and watch the ships sail by and people below enjoying the surf and the sand.

Holidaymakers could be strolling along on the street below totally unaware that above them you are enjoying the best secret, sunny spot any Tenby flat can offer.

Just be careful not to drop anything on them, like your morning coffee or your sunset cocktail.

What a magnificent spot to call your outdoor reading, beach watching and star-gazing nook.

But you eventually have to wander back into the apartment and that's no hardship either.

Occupying the top spot of this sunniest of yellow townhouse on the cliff-top street called Esplanade is this one-bed apartment.

But just because the flat is located in the loft doesn't mean it's pokey and dark - in fact, it's quite the reverse.

The head height is optimised by the ceiling disappearing and the room expanding upwards into the roof space.

Not only does this extra height make the room feel bigger, it also exposes the chunky roof beams that add character and charm to the home.

Lounge area tucked under the lowest part of the ceiling makes sense, creating a cosy corner to relax in (West Wales Properties, Tenby)

The open-plan living area makes the most of the space on offer by clearly zoning it into functions.

The lounging area is rightly tucked into one end of the room, under the lowest part of the ceiling and clustered around a feature fireplace.

This area is more intimate than the remaining space and works well, the placement of the relaxing zone here makes perfect sense as it has a cosier ambience.

The central section of the living area is designated as an eating zone and could easily accommodate a larger dining table if required.

The kitchen runs along the far wall and happily melts into the background wall thanks to its light cream units.

Just off the kitchen zone is another clever design addition to this flat, making optimum use of the space with the creation of a window seat within the protruding window feature.

Just off the kitchen zone is another clever design addition to this flat, making optimum use of the space with the creation of a window seat within the protruding window feature.

This wonderful extra feature is surely a reading nook with one of the best views in the area, although the constant coastal drama outside might distract you from the drama unfolding on the pages of your book.

At the rear of the apartment is a generous double bedroom, with roof windows above the bed so stargazing doesn't have to end once you come inside from the secret roof terrace.

The bedroom has an ensuite which again shows good use of space with the room easily accommodating a full size bath.

The flat is well-positioned for the three stunning beaches the town can offer as well as the thriving streets of independent shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and takeaways.

A bag of fish and chip shop chips on the hidden terrace sounds like the seaside evening meal of dreams for many people, just be careful up there, as you're closer to the cheeky chip pinching sea gulls.

The top of the townhouse with a top secret roof terrace is for sale for offers over £300,000 with West Wales Properties, call their Tenby branch on 01834 845584 to find out more.
