Ten-man Rangers suffer Ajax UEFA Youth League loss despite Ross McCausland double

RANGERS under-19s side fell to a 6-2 defeat to Ajax in their final UEFA Youth League match.

The Ibrox youth team slumped to defeat despite Ross McCausland's double after being reduced to ten-men when Bailey Rice was shown a straight red card.

Ajax took an early lead after eight minutes when David Kalokoh beat a couple of Rangers defenders before firing into the bottom corner.

Rangers would then be reduced to ten men as Rice was ordered off after being ruled to have denied a goalscoring opportunity when he fouled Skye Vink who looked to race clear of the Ibrox rearguard.

Despite the numbers disadvantage, Rangers would rally and McCausland levelled the scores after half-an-hour as he finished well from a Robbie Ure rebounded effort.

Eight minutes later and McCausland had Rangers in front as he again pounced on a rebound in the box to score his second.

But just before the break Ajax would make it 2-2. Kalokah was again the scorer as he surged into the box and found the net with a superb strike.

It would then be a difficult second-half for the Rangers starlets as Ajax showed their skill to score four goals after the break.

Raphael Sarto made it 3-2 after 55 minutes as he forced the ball over the line after a cross. And it was 4-2 just five minutes later as Chahine Van Bohemen found the net with a fierce drive from distance.

On 71 minutes, Ajax would further extend their lead as Rida Chahid slotted into an open goal from Vink's cut-back.

Ajax ended the rout late in the day as Yoram Boerhout burst past the Rangers defence and slotted home in additional time.
