Specialists at Boiler Central have now worked out the top ten energy sucking appliances in the home - with a few appliances potentially adding as much as £140 onto power bills per month, reports KentLive.

Washing machine - £14
The experts at Boiler Central have said that a four-person family household will pay £14 a month to run their washing machine totalling £168 a year. Try using eco washes.
Fridge freezer - £13
If your fridge freezer is rated as D you may be paying £13 a month in your energy bills. However even the most energy efficient fridge freezers could be costing you £7 a month in energy bills.
Dishwasher - £10.30
Dishwashers are handy to use but they can cost households £10.30 per month to use. However washing dishes by hand instead will mean your water bills are higher.
Kettle - £9.60
Using your kettle for just 15 minutes per day can add up to £9.60 a month. Fill it with only the amount of water you need as every time you heat too much it costs you money.
Oven - £9.36
Ovens may be one of the most important appliances in a household but it can cost nearly £10 a month if it is used every day. Try to cook things together rather than turn it on several times a day.
Television - £3.45
Your television can add around £3.45 per month onto your energy bills. You can save £12 a year if you turn the device off at the wall instead.
Laptop - £1.56
Laptops may not be as expensive to run as you may think but they still make the top ten. However if you unplug your laptop when you are not using it you will then save around 13p per day.
Microwave - £1.60
If you use your microwave for just 10 minutes everyday then it will cost you £1.60 a month. They do still drain your power when they are not in use if they are plugged in on standby.
Mobile phone - 44p
Charging your mobile phone can cost around 44p per month. However if you unplug your charger when you are not using it you can save £2 a year.
Work out how much your devices cost you
It is not as hard as you may think to work out how much your devices cost to run. First of all you need to find out the power used in kilowatts of your devices.
Once you have that you need to multiply the price of one kilowatt hour of kWh this will vary depending on your energy deal. Finally multiply that by the time you run the device for and you have the answer.
