'Telling' reason Queen changed burial plans for her favourite corgi

Susanna Reid explained the Queen's corgis are laid to rest depending on where they die.

Good Morning Britain continued to discuss the Queen's funeral following the end of the national period of mourning on today's show. Presenters Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid praised the ceremony and everyone that took part in the "monumental moment in British history."

Hugo Vickers, a royal correspondent, said the Queen was kind to everyone she met but had a particular soft spot for her corgis, Muick and Sandy. The Queen's dogs are descendants from a long line of corgis with Susan, a gift for her 18th birthday, being the first she owned.

Susanna said her heart broke at seeing her current pets stand at the side during yesterday's possession. She said she's enjoyed hearing new stories of the Queen over the funeral period but a secret about her corgis went down as her favourite.

Recalling the conversation, she said: "[The Queen's] favourite corgi, Candy, had died not long ago at Balmoral and the tradition is that the corgis, wherever they die, whatever residency they die, that's where they're buried.

"You would normally have expected Candy to be buried at Balmoral but the Queen requested Candy be buried at Windsor. It wasn't long before the Queen died and you get the sense that the Queen loved her dogs and it was so sweet of her, and telling, that she wanted Candy to be with her when she died."

Hugo added the Queen's dogs had their preferences with staff and would often turn up their noses at anyone who wasn't the monarch herself. He said: "The corgis wouldn't talk to a particular person because, which the Queen admitted herself, they're snobs. They're a very good judge of character."

Muick and Sandy are being passed to her son, Prince Andrew, to be taken care of following her death. A spokesperson for the Royal Family said the dogs would simply be moving residence on the estate to live with him at Royal Lodge.
