Telles, Fred, Cavani - Manchester United injury news and return dates ahead of Burnley fixture

Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from their shock FA Cup defeat to Middlesbrough when they travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley in the Premier League on Tuesday evening.

United, who beat Burnley 3-1 in their last match of 2021, will be looking to make up for Friday evening's FA Cup exit at the hands of the Championship side and register a third successive Premier League win.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick saw his side lose 8-7 on penalties after being forced to settle for a 1-1 stalemate at the end of 120 minutes, meaning they must now focus all of their energy on maintaining their push for a top-four finish.

United will make the short hop to Turf Moor in the driving seat to secure the final Champions League spot after beating West Ham United prior to the winter break, meaning they must now deal with the pressure of trying to stay there.

The trip to Burnley is United's first of five league fixtures before the end of February, highlighting that Rangnick is going to need as many players available to him as possible.

With that in mind, here is a round-up of all the very latest United injury and team news ahead of the trip to Turf Moor.

Victor Lindelof

Lindelof missed the defeat to Middlesbrough through illness and is likely to face a late fitness test to determine whether or not he will be available to face the Clarets.

Possible return date: February 8.

Eric Bailly

Defender Bailly recently returned from the Africa Cup of Nations carrying a knock which ruled him out on Friday evening.

Rangnick confirmed the 27-year-old had "some problems" with his ankle, but he could be fit enough to be named in the squad against Burnley, subject to a late fitness test.

Possible return date: February 8.

Alex Telles

Left-back Telles will miss the trip to Burnley after returning a positive Covid-19 test. The Brazilian was recently away on international duty and tested positive ahead of Friday's FA Cup exit.

Possible return date: February 12.

Fred

Fellow Brazilian Fred was also away on international duty last week, but returned to the UK in time to face Chris Wilder's side, even if it was in a late cameo appearance from the substitutes bench. Rangnick has since confirmed he has also tested positive for Covid-19 and could miss the clash with Southampton on Saturday in addition to the trip to Burnley.

Rangnick said: "Unfortunately, the same thing happened today [Monday] with Fred. That's why he will be missing from tomorrow's game and possibly even the game against Southampton."

Possible return date: February 15.

Jesse Lingard

Attacking-midfielder Lingard will be back in the squad for the trip to Burnley, Rangnick has confirmed. The England international missed Friday's FA Cup defeat after being granted time off by United following a failed exit from the club at the end of the January transfer window.

Lingard disputed Rangnick's claim that requested extra time off, but the German has insisted that he has a good relationship with the former West Ham loanee.

"With regards to Jesse, I have a very good relationship with him, he knows that I would have been willing to let him go, at least until the issue with Mason [Greenwood] came up, and all the other things, that haven't been spoken about, he mentioned some personal issues," Rangnick admitted.

Possible return date: February 8.

Edinson Cavani

Like Lingard, Cavani also missed the clash with Middlesbrough after being granted time away from the club. The striker stayed in Uruguay for an extra two days following his heroics in their 4-1 triumph over Venezuela. However, Rangnick has confirmed that he will also be available for the clash with Sean Dyche's side.

Meanwhile, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho will be available for selection despite being substituted against Boro.
