Hundreds of thousands of people are without power due to a major winter storm bringing snow, ice, strong winds and freezing temperatures across the US.

The freezing weather is being blamed on disturbances in the polar vortex with temperatures falling as low aw -40C in northern Canada.

A state of emergency has been declared in seven states – Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Arkansas and parts of New Jersey. Some schools and government offices are closed and more than 1,000 flights in the US have been canceled.

According to warnings from the National Weather Service, some areas may experience their heaviest snowfall in a decade.

Though we’d like to hear from you, your safety and security are most important. When recording, or sharing your content with us, please put your welfare and the welfare of others first. Extreme weather events can be very unpredictable and carry very real risks.
