Tell us about a great winter outdoors activity in the UK – you could win a holiday voucher

As the temperatures drop and the nights draw in, it’s tempting to go into hibernation mode, but winter can be a wonderful time to get outside and experience the best that this season has to offer. From stargazing to storm chasing, beachcombing to birdwatching, we’d argue that some activities are actually better in winter. And increasingly tourism providers are waking up to the untapped potential of the colder months by staying open year-round, offering tempting deals and special off-season events.

We’d love to hear about the UK pastimes and places that inspire you to get into the great outdoors in winter.

If you have a relevant photo, do send it in – but it’s your words that will be judged for the competition.

The best tip of the week, chosen by Tom Hall of Lonely Planet, will win a £200 voucher to stay at a Coolstays property – the company has more than 3,000 worldwide. The best tips will appear in the Guardian Travel section and website.

We’re sorry, but for legal reasons you must be a UK resident to enter this competition.
