The 2025 edition of the Miss Universe competition has introduced a new category: Miss Universe Latina. This beauty queen will be selected among 50 contestants through a new reality show by Telemundo.
The announcement was made during the U.S. broadcast of the 2024 Miss Universe final gala by hosts Jaqueline Bracamontes and Danilo Carrera. According to them, the winner of the show will secure a spot in the prestigious international competition.
The concept is reminiscent of 'Nuestra Belleza Latina,' the reality show by rival network Univision, and 'Reality Miss Venezuela,' which has selected representatives for various beauty pageants, including Miss Universe, in the South American country.
"Miss Universe has always held a special place among the Latin community, celebrating the beauty and culture of our people and empowering women to become ambassadors of their heritage while inspiring pride," said in a Telemundo statement Ronald Day, President of Entertainment and Chief Content Officer at Telemundo. "Latinos in the United Sates are now 65 million strong, and we are excited to partner with the Miss Universe Organization to elevate and celebrate our rich cultural diversity on such an important global stage."
"We are thrilled to announce "Miss Universe Latina, El Reality" with Telemundo, a groundbreaking reality show celebrating and empowering the Latino community globally. This platform will feature 50 talented Latina contestants showcasing their heritage, intelligence, and cultural pride, fostering diversity and inclusivity," said Raul Rocha President, Miss Universe Organization in the same statement.
"Together, we aim to crown the first-ever Miss Universe®️ Latina delegate, who will carry the spirit of Latinas to the 74th Miss Universe®️ pageant. This partnership strengthens our shared commitment to uplifting the Latino community and creating a culturally enriching experience in 2025," he added.
How to Apply for Miss Universe Latina
Details on how to participate are now available on Telemundo.com, where the casting is already open. Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident
- Speak Spanish
- Have at least a high school education
- Be at least 18 years old
Participants must also provide their address, mobile phone number, social media accounts, two photos (one headshot and one full-body), and a video explaining why they want to join the competition and if they've dreamed of competing in Miss Universe.
"During Miss Universe Latina, El Reality, contestants will undergo dynamic and transformative training and coaching led by experts in various modalities, such as leadership, runway, fashion, public speaking and advocacy, preparing them to shine on the world stage," added Telemundo. "Throughout the competition, candidates will have the opportunity to showcase their Latina identity while supporting the values of the Miss Universe Organization. The winner of the competition will be selected by a panel of expert judges and will be crowned as the first Miss Universe® Latina to proudly represent the strength and pride of their roots."
