Telangana forester’s blog honoured

Blog entry by an officer from the Telangana State Forest Department has gone international, when it was chosen by the World Forestry Congress as one among the top three in a competition.

The blog “Resilience and better life with urban forests in Hyderabad” by senior IFS officer and Additional PCCF Mohan Chandra Pargaien highlighted the proactive green action of the Telangana Government, and the success story of urban forest parks of Hyderabad, a statement from the Forest department informed.

The impact of Telangana Ku Haritha Haram project, as visible in the recently-reported improved forest cover in the city, will be showcased at the World Forestry Congress to be held at Seoul, South Korea, between May 2 and 6, the note said.

Mr. Pargaien has highlighted the specific efforts of various agencies like Forests, HMDA, and GHMC, which resulted in increasing the forest cover in Hyderabad from 33.15 square kilometres to 81.81 square kilometres (147% increase).

He had also been instrumental in getting a place for the city among the ‘Tree Cities of the World’, listed by the Arbor Day Foundation jointly with FAO.
