A fire that broke out in a building in inner Melbourne and shrouded the city in smoke is being treated as suspicious.
It took fire crews about an hour to contain the fire that erupted in the Clarendon Street structure in Southbank just after 4pm on Thursday.
No one was inside the building and the exact cause is yet to be determined.
A Victoria Police arson chemist will examine the scene on Friday.
"The fire is being treated as suspicious at this stage," police said.
